Ad quality, malvertising, and brand safety

A bad ad does not just annoy users, it can redirect them to a scam or hijack the page. And the door it walks through is almost always an unauthorized supply path. Supply-chain hygiene is ad-quality control.

The creative-borne risks

  • Malvertising: an ad carrying malicious code.
  • Auto-redirects: an ad that forcibly navigates the user away from the page.
  • Heavy creatives: oversized ads that slow the page and burn data.

Key idea

Clean ads.txt, sellers.json, and schain reduce the unauthorized paths that carry bad ads. Unauthorized and deep-reseller paths are where bad demand sneaks in, because no one is accountable for them. Tightening your supply chain (SPO) is also a brand-safety control.
